hI, I’M JEANINE
I am the author of The Two of Them Might Outlast Me (2022). I’ve received writing fellowships from Artist Trust, The Jack Straw Cultural Center, Wonju (UNESCO City of Literature), and Inprint. My poems and translations have appeared in Poetry, Bennington Review, New Ohio Review, Pleiades, Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore, and elsewhere.
As a poet with a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Houston and an M.A. in Creative Writing from Hollins University, I’ve spent many years teaching poetry and coaching poets—from their first lines to their first publications.
I also host It Goes On, a reading series at Hugo House, where I bring my comedic style to the mic while celebrating the incredible local poets who share the stage.
My second poetry manuscript, Language Lessons, is a lyric blend of narrative poems exploring my time teaching in Korea, the process of translation, and the intricacies of acquiring language. My co-translation of Ahn Joo Cheol’s Things to Do in the Next Life is expected in fall 2025.
